Your note on Ken Paxton led to so many thoughts. Ken Paxton is truly Trump 2.0. I think the only "pro-Ken" ads feature his daughter and future ex-wife. I wonder if they were paid to support him or forced by the GOP to do those ads, especially since they aren't produced by Ken's PAC. In one ad, his daughter talks about Ken keeping prices low—well, he's already in office, and prices aren't being lowered!
The GOP ads have really ramped up in Texas for both the Senate and Gubernatorial races. They are heavily targeting Talarico and Hinojosa with claims about forcing parents to have their children undergo transition surgery. It’s completely wild that anyone believes the government could force a surgery on a child, yet they claim they can't force you to vaccinate your child. So, the message to Texans is that you have the right to skip vaccines and risk your child dying from measles, but somehow they are going to force your child into surgery?
Meanwhile, Abbott is attacking Hinojosa for raising property taxes, which is simply wrong. Harris County is raising property taxes by 7% in 2027 to cover the severe shortfall in state funding for public schools. Local officials have no other choice since the state isn't funding education adequately. To make matters worse, part of those increased taxes goes toward private school vouchers—funding something many of us don't want. Even though I don't have kids, I want my tax dollars going to support public schools.
I do find it interesting that none of the ads I'm seeing are about the border.
Note 15: a LOT of complaints coming out regarding Shapiro's latest propaganda piece- hiring and not paying extras, hiring extras and and telling them the movie's anti-ICE and they show up and- guess what??. Tons of safety issues.
Oh, and Danny Trejo and Harvey Keitel are starring in it, and one of the producers of Rust ( the Alex Baldwin movie where he shot and killed someone) is working on this one also.
I hope & pray the pundits are right and it's a blue tsunami , AND they are seated in January. Only then will I be able to breathe a little easier. As Rep Murphy put it, we can then get rid of the garbage, and get this country back from the fascists that want to control it. Baby steps.
