A book he wanted to do with approval of the studio was scratched when trump came to office. It had something to do with racists.

The youth don't feel either party has lifted a finger to help them, and so, are disillusioned by both. Dumpty came along and thumbed his nose at both, and suddenly they thought, "Someone who speaks for us", plus they found him highly entertaining. And to them, it's all they really knew. He's been around since they were juniors in high school, and really the MAGA mediasphere helped immensely in turning them from trad conservative ideology to right wing ideology, and some of them to the far right,
And that's why neither Vance or Rubio have a prayer at getting younger voters to vote for them. They simply aren't far right enough, or entertaining enough to attract their vote.

And as a baby boomer who resents be lumped in with all baby boomers because a small part of us are addicted to Fox News and so love trump, I refuse to lump any group into one basket. I have seen young people who are very engaged in the here and now, who fill me with hope for the future. I’m not writing them off.

If you don't believe that, just look up the numbers of followers of people like Laura Loomer, Nick Fuentes, Candace Owens, and Tucker Carlson. Subtract maybe 10 to 15% of those numbers as representing the merely curious, and journalists, and you'll get an idea of just how many are now attracted to the far right.
I too am a boomer who hates to be painted with a broad brush, and as a Texan, and even bigger broad brush, but a significant number of right wing curious and outright fascistic youth are beginning to make up a significant bloc of future voters. I've seen this for a while now. Yes, there are liberal young folks who give me hope, but I don't have any hard data to suggest that they are currently outnumbering those who are "conservative", or simply apathetic about voting.
And you don't have to believe me, if you get and read Sarah Longwell's book there's an entire chapter devoted to this very subject. Just know it's not addressing ALL youth of voting age, just those who are right wing attracted, fully immersed in that ideology, or simply curious about it enough to fully look into it.
Sarah’s book is next on my reading list. Looking forward to starting it in the next few days. She has great insights into voter’s minds, due to her focus groups.
