My son and I visited your beautiful nation in 2017 and I am still gobsmacked at how majestic AND CLEAN the place is. Did some hiking down at Milford Sound and the glaciers, a photography tour around Aukland/Piha Beach, and got to see a real live kiwi bird--which are way larger than I imagined. Almost as big as that baby seal! Mahalo!
Great to hear you both visited these shores. Milford is beautiful, in fact the whole South Island (IMO) makes the North Is. look small in scale - but it does get chilly down there in winter. We are in Napier (East coast of North Is.). It is known for its art deco architecture + great wineries and orchards. We retired here mostly for the climate - 31 Cel. and blue sky today, tomorrow and further according to the weather forecast. I hate the cold - in winter it can get pretty cool but never snow temps. I have travelled to the US a couple of times and would love to go back but not until things change politically. My wife says that they only need to see some of my comments on substacks, youtube etc. and I would be sent straight to Guantanamo. Just know that the majority of Kiwis (people) are right behind you and wish for the end of Trump and his evil regime. I am sure it will come soon. A year ago, I wanted to really enjoy the holidays because I felt like a train wreck was coming. My husband said not to worry, it will take time and trump won't move too quickly. I didn't believe him completely, but I did feel like it would take a while to get the bad stuff really started. We were both SO wrong. The train wreck came full force and blew up in our faces. Then we were bombed, over and over and over....etc. again and again and again. It is SO, SO, SO much worse than I ever imagined. The level of evil, greed, hate, and maniacal idiocy is overwhelming. The "Pitiful Pittance Perks" start kicking in for the 2025 Tax Year so that we won't be so upset over lost SNAP, Medicaid & Medicare benefits.... and the changes to other things like student loans, Pell Grants, and other assistance that would allow you or your children to go to college, the $5 Trillion extra dollars approved to "borrow" for 2025/2026, Unemployment Benefits, tax deductions and tax breaks for you and me that have been eliminated, and the fact that only the richest people will get a tax break.
But you will have pounded into your brain through social media, news, campaign ads, and all other kinds of propaganda what these "pitiful pittance perks" are - but not the nitty gritty details on how they work and how you really won't qualify, or if you do, you won't get much of a deduction.
