The Nazis never got to 38% in a free and fair election. They couldn't even sniff 50% in the first one they rigged. Then why did they have the power? Because the opposition in Germany in the 1920s and early 1930s were too busy bickering over, I'm not even making this up, communism and socialism vs. capitalism. Here's the only thing you need to know about fighting fascists: do everything you can to stop the fascists, no matter how much your allies bother you. Fight the fascists like your life depends on it because your life depends on it.
