Why doesn’t the Kean family just admit he’s in inpatient treatment for substance abuse? It would at least provide a legitimate reason for his absenses.

Farewell To "free speech" & "Stephen Colbert" - this is a bit premature - unless you're being sarcastic. Stephen Colbert will continue to be speaking up for decades... Jon Stewart took a break (and we all wish he had not) - and then came back full force. I predict that Stephen Colbert will also.
