I think the better interpretation is that Rahm Emanuel is paid by the Republicans, if not directly, then handsomely through the capitalist system that he works so hard to maintain for them (like owing his career to Jamie Dimon). As is true of most of the centrists and anyone who advised the Clintons (yes, I'm talking about you, James Carville).
When are mainstream Dems going to take responsibility for actively pushing out DSA candidates in *every* federal race and standing behind POS like Andrew Cuomo? Who needs the Republicans running ads that a DSAer is too liberal and unelectable when the Democratic establishment is saying the very same thing, not just behind closed doors. (Like in the Wisconsin governor's race).
And the Dems are also trying to silence them once they make it to Congress. It is 100% clear that they didn't want AOC or any of the Squad members to have a voice, and while they ultimately voted to prevent Ilhan Omar from being censured, they definitely wish she would stop criticizing the party at all, ever, no matter what it does. AOC is sought out by the media because of her relentless refusal to be silenced, not because the party wants to embrace her as the rising star that she is, mentioned as a potentially viable 2028 presidential candidate.
It's hard to look at the Dem party's embrace of Republicans like Liz Cheney, Thomas Massey, and John Cornyn, just because they are not as heinous *on every issue* as MAGA (just most of them). Compare that to what they do to those who dare to remind the party that they could just be a big tent and give the DSA types a reason to vote blue and do actual organizing in their districts, rather than stay home or vote for third parties. When their RINO outreach is more robust than their leftist outreach, it plays right into the feeling that there is no pathway to challenge the party's centrist orthodoxy and embrace of out-of-touch senior citizens except to primary them -- it certainly isn't to vote blue no matter who and naively hope they'll move left instead of right while in office. And when DSA-aligned candidates successfully primary them, Romer isn't wrong that the party centrists should be concerned.
This article does give what seems like a fairly good description of the various factions of the DSA from a member. I’m certainly sympathetic to moving the Democratic Party away from corporatism and towards working for the people, FDR style. But after reading this article including comments and the platform of the DSA I am not on board with them at all. And I see why republicans are calling them communists. I didn’t realize that many of them are all about Putin. Please.
This is one of the best pieces I’ve read in recent memory and I think it is so crucial. I’m pretty far left but I’m not a DSA person, but a lot of my friends are and I’ve had a lot of trouble reconciling the frankly batshit insane pieces of their platform (especially regarding foreign policy) with the left-of-democrats but generally reasonable views of Mamdani and others (I’m in Denver and a fan of Melat Kiros). I’m very much in favor of having a diversity of views in the Democratic Party INCLUDING DSA, but so many DSA folks go so much harder against democrats than against the actual fascists and it drives me insane

Seems important to understand that, like the big parties (and most movements), there are factions contending for influence in DSA. I worry that for some the general election advice to “vote blue no matter who” is only directed at left-of-democrats instead of being a commitment from ALL of us.
