Hi Ally, I also enjoyed your article today...I hope that you would consider sharing your story with John Pavlovitz, who has a popular newsletter on Substack called "The Beautiful Mess". He speaks to MAGA folks frequently...and how we might speak with them

I left maga during tRump's first term. I could see the writing on the wall at that time.

Impressed. My husband's still drinking the orange Kool Aid, unfortunately. I still don't understand how he can believe that all the illegal and corrupt things the regime's doing are ok. If we hadn't been together since way before 45, I wouldn't be with him.

Hi Ally, I too was a Republican and it was for me also around Covid when I realized that Trump was Evil and I made a big mistake voting for him. I am not afraid of him, but iam sooo worried about the future of our children and great grandchildren. God Bless you.🙏🌹

I’ll need to read your article Ally. I’m struggling with my parents who were reluctant voters for 45 in 2016. However, they seem to be all-in now, having voted for him in 2020 & 2024. My dad is former military who was incensed over Hilary’s emails, but seems to give the guy who stole & his our nation’s classified documents from our nation & National Archives. We also have survivors of SA in our family & this apparently doesn’t give them pause—& the insurrection on Jan. 6 also seems to make no difference to them. Their third vote has been the straw that is really harming any relationship with them.

If I may - do you really have to have a relationship with your parents? I understand family and all that more than I ever even cared to, but IMHO you need to set a self-sufficient stop sign to them i.e. the boundary as they seem to be, sad to say, lost.

I'm sorry there is so much division in your family, My significant other has voted for 45 & 47, and while i think he may be regretting it, he is not going to admit it to me, or anyone else. I don't want him to lose his money, but it may take that to get him to get smart.

Appreciate that this wasn’t an easy thing to do—to write this piece, have this conversation, put yourself “out there.”

Actually, even I who despised tRumputin from the moment my eyes first time saw him - cable and/or dish TV commercials of his apprenticeshit, a show I never watched, in 2004-2005, I can admit that tRumputin's only "talent" is to be a circus freak jester to be laughed at hysterically and ridiculed routinely. But for any serious position, not to mention presidency, he most obviously is not at all. Some other people couldn't timely see that crucially important distinction and I can try to forgive them counting of course they're genuine now in their disgust at him!

Ally, thanks for your courage in speaking out. I understand how a young person, raised in the family culture you were, could think 45/47 was funny, just trying to own the libs. It’s the older folks who supported him 3x that I have trouble wrapping my head around it.

Yep, millions times yep! it's the older, controlling-freaks, parentalists, tribalists, bigots, abusers who are the problem. It all comes down to the family dynamics psychology.

Thank you so much for sharing all of this. I didn't know you were a couple. You each showed up in my mailbox and I have subscribed to both your newsletters. Love Ally's for her short excellent reporting and Adam's (& Sam's) "say it out loud" style. Both just excellent. I can't wait to read Ally's article as I have family on the dark side supporting MAGA compounded by being very religious and anti-vaxxers. Relationship was ok until Covid - started getting better again until the traitorous sob was elected again. Last November crushed me and I sat out Thanksgiving and Christmas. I so appreciate you sharing this as I want to have hope that more folks will see that MAGA is hate and destruction. So hard to articulate when it is so black and white to me. I wanted joy and hope for the future - the complete opposite of what we got and are getting. Thank you both for your contributions.

Thank you Ally for being here. I would like to recommend everyone read Stewart Stevens, 'It Was All a Lie'. Stewart is a long time GOP strategist, I think he is now a registered Independent. I think many Repubs are reluctant to register as a Dem because of the decades of GOP saying how evil the party is. I found his book to be profound. Eye opening. I am grateful for Stewart having the nerve & backbone to write the book. Thank you Adam & Ally - grateful for your work
