A whole buncha years ago my wife and I were working in our local Democratic Party HQ on a Saturday (this must have been for the 2010 midterms) and Gabby Giffords came by to rally the troops, and she brought along the guy she was married to, who just happened to be an astronaut. EVERYBODY politely said "Hi" to her as we mobbed Mark Kelley for handshakes and autographs. :-) I still have his around here somewhere

I think the epitome for me was when I was manning a booth at the Tucson Festival of Books before the pandemic and I asked a woman who came up what she liked to read: mystery, romance, what? She looked at me and said, "I don't read. It's stupid." She was dead serious. At a fucking BOOK FESTIVAL. I suggested graphic novels, you know, with pictures, and she shook her head. "I'm just here for the food." And yeah, you can guess what she looked like.
I was 27. It was indeed thrilling. Then in the 80s I got to shake hands with two astronauts who later tragically died, but not before watching their earlier successful launch into a clear, blue Florida sky. Yes, thrilling.
Well child rapist Robert Morris is only service 6 months in Jail, so no justice is being served here. MTG's boyfriend thinks she's hot, so the fact that he believes we didn't land on the moon tracks perfectly with his IQ. Tomorrow the new presiding bishop will be installed--a black man from the south side of Chicago, Rev. Yehiel Curry.
