Trump talks while Biden and Harris deliver

Thursday’s prisoner swap was a reminder that results matter

There’s a scene in the comedy “MacGruber” where actor Ryan Phillippe, exhausted with the constant bravado and ineptness of Will Forte’s MacGruber, demands that MacGruber stop talking.

“That’s all you do is talk. Talk and fuck things up.” 

Sound like someone we know?

Donald Trump was bigly humiliated Thursday when President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris completed a high-wire multi-national diplomatic victory by freeing several prisoners from Russia, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovitz and Marine Paul Whelan. 

Seeing the suddenly free Americans on their way home was a powerful reminder that while Trump talks a lot, it is Biden and Harris who actually deliver for the American people. 

Just look at Gershkovitz. Trump has been blasting out all caps Truth Social posts in recent weeks saying that only he could get the WSJ reporter home because he has such a great relationship with Putin. It was a remarkably inappropriate use of an American political prison for political purposes, reminiscent of the delayed hostage deal in the 1980 election. It was also a great way for Trump to embarrass himself again.

Because while he was sitting on his gold toilet at Mar-a-Lago talking tough on his phone, Biden and Harris were actually doing the hard work of bringing our people home. Democrats are serious people who take governing seriously. Trump just has a big mouth. 

It’s why he resorts to cheap racism in his campaign against Harris. He could put in some effort and learn a little policy and actually try to articulate a vision for the future of America. But that would require thought and work, and it’s a lot easier and less time consuming to just be a racist asshole. 

There seems to be only one place where Trump won’t talk — on a debate stage with Kamala Harris. 

Trump is just a classic bully. He talks tough and puffs his chest out even though he’s never actually been in a fight. He’s a weak man who is desperate to look strong. And all he does is talk and fuck things up. 

Thank you to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for reminding us Thursday of what it looks like when our leaders lead and when they do the hard work for the American people. 

And thank you, Donald, for reminding us that you’re all talk.
