Today’s Big Stuff 7.8.24

It’s Monday. There are 119 days until the general election. Europe shows us how it’s done, Biden hits the trail hard and Republicans are worried we know they’re fascist a-holes.

Note: Sexy Patriots! We missed y’all so gosh darn much! It’s so great to be back with you while America shits itself to death. Ok so maybe that’s a bit hyperbolic. But are we the only ones disgusted by the joyous orgy of media assheadery at the expense of our president? It’s fucking grotesque!

We don’t have anything smart to add to this gang up. We will simply say we’re with Biden. And that’s not a hard thing for us to say. And if VP Harris becomes the nominee, then we’re with her too. But what we really want to say today is fuck the press. Seriously. Fuck ‘em. For two weeks now, they’ve been giddily attacking Biden and his family all while reminding us that they didn’t do any of that shit when a judge called Trump a rapist or when he was convicted on 34 felony counts or when he showed up in the Epstein flight logs or when he attacked the goddamn Capitol and attempted a coup. And frankly we’ve had enough of this bullshit. 

So we’re going to do something we never thought we would do — we’re going to get serious. 

The press have made it clear with their emails garbage in 2016 and their ageism garbage currently that they have given up on their mission of informing the people and holding the powerful to account. So we’re stepping in. We’ve joked about it before, but we really mean it this time. TBS is growing up. Or trying to at least. But for this to work, we have to get stronger as a newsletter. Right now, we are in survival mode. We are publishing from Substack and we are about to start offering paid subscriptions for bonus content. We will keep original TBS alive and free as long as we can. But the hard truth is we won’t last much longer unless we can persuade y’all to join us. 

We need sources of truth out there. We know the New York Times ain’t up for it. And if y’all will help us, we are determined to keep telling it like it is. So please sign up. So we know y’all have shared our fear that the far right is on the march around the world. It’s a damn serious thing and we’ve been trying very hard not to crap ourselves. So we were really damn relieved in recent days when the British kicked their conservatives to the curb and France held back the far right. It’s a HUGE sigh of relief and a powerful reminder to us that we haven’t lost a fucking thing yet. We get to decide how this stuff turns out. And we have just been reminded what happens when we put our bullshit aside and team up to defeat fascism. So let’s go to work. More

That was supposed to be like July but it didn’t really work. Anyway, Joe Biden has been out there busting his ass to show that he is more capable of doing the job he keeps kicking ass at. He was in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania over the weekend, and he did an interview with George Stephanopolous on Friday. He was in church Sunday. He did Morning Joe today. He sent a letter to House Democrats announcing he ain’t going anywhere. He just announced his schedule for next week’s Republican convention (the conventions are already here?!!!!). Put another way, the man is out there busting his ass to show everyone he can do this. We just have to hope enough people are paying attention. More: Huff Post

While Biden has been out there, Trump has basically been in hiding. And really with Democrats tearing each other apart at the moment, it might be the one smart thing he’s ever done. But he is also worried. That’s why last week he felt compelled to put out a Truth Social post saying he knows nothing about Project 2025. Bullshit. His PAC has been sharing their message and their whole team is made up of people from the Trump White House. So if Trump is running from this shit, then you know it polls badly. Because Americans might be worried about Joe’s age, but they really hate Trump’s fascist policies. Unfortunately, our news media is far more concerned about the former. More: Associated Press
