Today’s Big Stuff 7.17.24 | The VP goes after JD
It’s Wednesday. There are 110 days until the general election. Democrats call for Mendendez to go, POTUS vs. SCOTUS and the VP goes after JD.
Be advised: This newsletter uses profanity. The Republican convention drove us to it.
Note: We want to start today with a big thank you to everyone who has joined us over on Substack. We’ve still got a long way to go if we’re going to replace the “media” with the fiery cussing truth we like to deliver each day, but we are damn grateful to every one of y’all who are getting us started. We also thought this was a good time to tell folks a little bit more about this newsletter. We’re basically really big into three things 1. Saving democracy 2. Cussing out Trump/Trumpism and 3. Making fun of Rudy Giuliani every damn chance we get. So yeah, we enjoyed this probably more than we should have…
Oof. That dude is a damn mess. Such a mess that we almost feel bad laughing at that. Almost. Because he’s also a totally irredeemable piece of shit who attempted a coup against our nation and said Tuesday that he has “no regrets” about defaming Georgia election workers Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman. So fuck him and his Four Seasons. Y’all have a blessed day. More: CNN
Note two: Last night at the Republican convention, they claimed to be the law and order party. Tonight they will hear from Peter Navarro who literally just got out of prison. Oh and their nominee is a convicted felon. More: CNN
Note three: Elon Musk says he’s moving out of California because Gavin Newsom doesn’t want trans kids being abused. Sounds like California just got even cooler. More: Associated Press
Note four: Biden spoke to the NAACP yesterday, and he was on fire. We’re sure Trump will speak to the group any day now. More: USA Today
Note five: This dude says Republicans are going “totally unhinged” if Trump loses. Buddy, you’re already there. (More: Acyn)
Note six: Jon Stewart had Bill O’Reilly on the Daily Show last night. In addition to being a who-gives-a-shit guest, it also seemed like a crappy thing to do to the women O’Reilly harassed. More: NO LINK
Note seven: Ben Carson took the stage last night and said “they” tried to kill Trump. We didn’t do shit. Some registered Republican did. More: USA Today
Note eight: And Nikki Haley went full Ted Cruz last night, showing up at the convention and endorsing the scum who attacked her husband. We’d call her pathetic, but that doesn’t seem harsh enough. More: NBC News
Note nine: Ron DeSantis was also there. We assume he has his poop map in his pocket. We’re not linking to any stories about him because really who gives a shit.
Note 10: LOL. Watch Matt Gaetz try to act tough and then run away when someone calls him an asshole…
Note 11: Trump basically said China can have Taiwan. This is why dictators love him. More: NY Mag
Note 12: Melania hasn’t been seen at the convention. She must be working hard on one of Michelle Obama’s speeches.
Note 13: Can someone tell us what the hell is going on with MSNBC? Why is Katy Tur gushing over Republican unity and kissing Eric Trump’s ass?
Note 14: According to our friends at MeidasTouch, Trump is now selling “limited edition” versions of his ugly ass sneakers that feature the picture of him pumping his fist. Just a reminder that someone died that day. So gross. More: MeidasNews
Note 15: Marjorie Taylor Greene says JD Vance believes the same things she does. We know, Marjorie. That’s why we’re gonna stop his ass.
Note 16: Seems like at some point the American people should have heard from Trump’s doctor or some kind of medical professional. Maybe some journalists should consider looking into that.
Note 17: We’re still so pissed about the Teamster president addressing the GOP convention. And then he turns around and admits that Biden has been the most pro-union president ever? More: The New Republic
Note 18: Two years ago, the Suicide and Crisis hotline number — 988 — came into existence. It has saved millions of lives. We know things are pretty messed up right now, but we love you and we need you around. So please remember that number if you ever need it. And please remember we love you.
Note 19: For today’s Happy Ending, we have a twofer from the world of sports. First, congrats to Lindsey Harding on becoming an assistant with the Lakers. And second, HUGE congratulations to the WNBA on their new media rights deal. They will earn about $2.2 billion over 11 years. That is so huge and long overdue. Congrats to all! More: Sports Illustrated
Note 20: And on that triumphant note, let’s go do some news! We sure hope y’all are having a good week and watching anything other than the Republican convention. It is not exactly must see tv. In fact, it just plain sucks. Love y’all!
Not the same
Wanna hear something crazy? Yesterday Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez was convicted for taking bribes and stuff and Democrats didn’t blame a rigged justice system. In fact, Menendez’s colleagues, including fellow N.J. Sen. Corey Booker and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, called on Menendez to resign. He won’t, but we still tried to do the right thing. And we didn’t even threaten any judges or juries or witnesses during the whole thing. So no, the two parties are not the same. More: Axios
Go Joe
In our book, this one is long overdue, but better late than never. With a broken and corrupt Supreme Court taking a wrecking ball to the rule of law, President Joe Biden is considering coming out with a call for tough reforms, including term limits and an enforceable code of conduct for justices. These calls obviously won’t get far with a divided government, but it will bring some much-needed attention to a runaway court that has gone full MAGA. More: CNN
Git his ass
Vice President Harris ain’t afraid of Jiggly Dumpeater (JD) Vance. This morning, Harris put out a 45-second video of her talking to the camera and calling Vance a “rubber stamp” for Trump and his extremist policies. Harris blasted Vance for being loyal to Trump and not America, and she hit him hard on abortion rights. VP Harris clearly ready for the debate. So are we. More: The Hill
Today’s clips
Country music artist Ingrid Andress says she was intoxicated during her much-criticized performance of the national anthem on Monday at the 2024 MLB Home Run Derby and will be seeking treatment. More: CNN
The Democratic National Committee said Wednesday that it won't start its "virtual roll call" to nominate Joe Biden as the Democratic party's presidential candidate until August. More: Huff Post
I support Biden-Harris because I selfishly wish my two beautiful children to survive a normal lifespan living in something resembling a democratic republic. I reject the gQp because the gQps hate women, minorities, education, Western culture, art, Europe and all patriotic Americans. The gQp loves Vladimir Putin and fascist Russia.
So does JD Vance think he can take on the VP?
WmBarr, a decades long liar in government, didn’t do well against VP Harris
