The Resistance is alive and well and angry

Reports of our demise might have been premature

Former NFL punter Chris Kluwe knows it. Maine Gov. Janet Mills knows it. And the hundreds of Americans making their voices heard at town hall meetings know it too.

Despite reports to the contrary, the resistance to Donald Trump and his unique brand of dumbfuck fascism is alive and well and angry as hell.

While too many elected Democrats have failed to meet the moment, the people are standing up. Whether it’s Kluwe getting arrested for civil disobedience at a Huntington Beach City Council meeting or Mills standing up to Trump and telling him “see you in court,” there are brave Americans who are making it damn clear that we are not just gonna roll over for America’s Hitler or his dorky, deadbeat dad super-villain friend.

After weeks in the wilderness wondering if we were alone, we are now seeing clear signs that Trump’s efforts to destroy this country will not go unopposed. We were beaten in November, but we were not defeated. If you don’t believe us, just look at the fire and passion Americans are bringing to Republican town hall meetings in places like Georgia and Wisconsin. The pathetic kiss-asses who worship at the orange alter are on their heels as they try to defend their cowardice.

Damn right! Boo, motherfucker! Boooooooooooo!

And it’s not just the anger we’re seeing at town hall meetings. This week, our friends at MeidasTouch eclipsed Joe Rogan as the top podcast. The news organization Puck did a poll with Echelon that found that 83 percent of people on the left are either “very” or “somewhat closely” following the shitshow. Even our own fucked up cussing newsletter has seen tens of thousands of new subscribers in the last few weeks. People aren’t turning away. They are tuning in.

And what they are seeing is pissing them off big time.

There are of course still way too many corporations and cowards who are keeping their heads down and hoping that if they just ignore fascism or kiss its ass hard enough then they will be spared. But Trump’s incompetent fascism can’t be avoided. It will infect everything. And to their credit — and our surprise — we are starting to see some big names stand up for themselves.

The Associated Press, barred from entering the Oval Office, covering presidential press conferences or traveling on Air Force One because they refuse to call it the Gulf of America, announced Friday they are suing the White House instead of complying. It is a welcome and crucial move. If Trump gets to decide which words the press uses, then what do we have left?

And there are even reports that a weakened and embattled CBS is preparing to go on offense over Trump’s bullshit 60 Minutes lawsuit even as Trump demands $20 billion in shakedown money from them.

There is no question that the last month has been pretty fucking bleak. Trump’s sins against our nation, our people and our sense of decency have been nonstop and somehow worse than we predicted. The nightmare was compounded by the sense that too much of our leadership had abandoned us in favor of the path of least resistance.

While AOC and Jasmine Crockett and Maxwell Frost fought lonely fights against our idiot king, there were too many John Fettermans looking to negotiate and appease the monsters who wish to rule over us.

But the louder we are, the more they will get the message and the more they will fight.

And we are starting to get pretty fucking loud.

There will be more dark days ahead. We are at the beginning of this journey, and the awful assholes are in charge and so far undaunted.

But do not despair. Because we are ready for this fight. Chris Kluwe is ready for this fight. Janet Mills is ready for this fight. You are ready for this fight.

So let’s get loud and let them know we’re still here and we ain’t going anywhere.
