I remember when Reagan removed and destroyed the solar panels Carter had installed on the White House. If Donnie pulls this contemptuous nonsense, I hope his ballroom will be razed, too.

You gotta get Donald out of the WH, first. I don’t believe we will have elections in November. When people get upset about it, Donald will declare Martial Law. Donald will send in National Guard and active duty troops in every state. A la Los Angeles.

As I have said before, the pulse I take every day is how likely I think it will be that we'll have elections next year in November. I am honestly not sure. You believe we won't, and you specify a mechanism. Excuse me if I hope you're wrong. I'm not sure you're wrong. I just hope you are.

Well after the Donald LEAVES - if he indeeds succeeds in this expansion, if the new occupant has any sense it will be used for office space - which is pretty crammed, perhaps a better newsroom - there are alot of useful things it could be retooled for. First job is to take off all the gilt it looks cheap.

actually it's extremely well documented and bipartisan that the WH is very claustrophobic, and suffers from very small rooms. It has desperately needed larger spaces.

Not that fucking ballroom. So what if it's claustrophobic with small rooms. It's the people's house and it reflects the way the vast majority of people live in this country. Stop excusing Trump's egotistical self-agrandisment at the expense of the taxpayers.

But a ballroom will not meet the needs for offices, living space, etc. It would not be utilized often and would be a waste of space and money, really.

Yes, no president should be able to change the White House, as an antique structure it is valuable living history, any changes should be run through congress who has the power of the purse. Repairs and maintenence being the exception.

Versailles is a material representation of absolute grandeur and must be seen in person to experience the decoration. Louis XIV had GENUINE power and majesty; he was long the ultimate king of his time and he built Versailles to showcase that. He was not the Sun King without reason; this was, after all, the Âge des Lumières, the Age of Enlightenment. The breathtaking volume and size of the palace and grounds are more than suited to such lavish decoration. The sad wannabe in D.C. is pitifully insignificant in comparison to the Roi Soleil or even to any legitimate nobleperson, and his graceless attempts to jazz up the People's House with Temu appliqués and, now, an added ballroom (.v.) are merely the feeble attempts of up-jumped lowlife scum in its purest form.

I thought he was going to pay for the ballroom himself. What a waste! What does the “power of the purse” Congress have to say about this? I hope NO!!! I want ballroom money to pay for healthcare, feeding starving children, medical research, funding education, enhancing medicaid for those who qualify, reducing student debt, tax breaks for poor & middle class ONLY, sending aid to needy people around the world (instead of destroying it), paying down the debt & so many more worthwhile possibilities. We do not need a ballroom at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. There are plenty of venues in DC - look at all the Inaugural Balls. No problem finding locations for them. Congress- don’t let this happen!
