Ms. Crockett is the real deal. She is *everywhere*. She's in DC, she's in TX streets, she's out rallying constituents for down-ballot candidates in small elections. She's doin the damn thang! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I'm a Michigan voter but I'm still jealous that we don't have her up here. lol

Personally, I love to blame our country's challenges on the lack of a woman in charge of everything. 😇

Well, I'm in an awful part of Us, Florida. But I am flying up to upstate NY dfor the one and only family reunion there will have ever been. I'm rooming with a classic, dyed-in-the-wool ever Trumper. I have the shirt because I've always loved Canada. (And my grandma smugled your booze over the border back in the 1920s to NY.)

You poor bastard.

I'm in Florida too, and can't find anyone to get as a roommate who isn't one, either. So it's just me and a cat not far from the nicest beach in the US. For now...

I’m a 60 something white female and I ❣️❣️❣️❣️ her❣️ My similar demographic friends LOVE her. She says what we wish we could. I admire her delivery of straightforward rebuttal of the doublespeak nonsense coming from the Magats in Congress. I refuse to call them Republicans because they no longer are.

Amen. Chuck Schumer and Ken Martin are using an ancient battle strategy, playing what they think is the “long game”, totally unaware they have already lost the war. Or they are just crooked numbskulls going along to get along whilst lining their campaign war chests with special interest donations.

Barbara, I agree 100%. Schumer and Martin are antiquated unaware old school politicos. I’d like to see Schumer retire, AOC in that seat, Chris Murphy as Dem Senate leader and Ben Wikler as DNC Party Chair. AOC, Murphy & Wikler are winners.

YES. She gets it. A lot of the viral segments of men in Congress grilling people like Noem and RFKjr etc show me they don’t seem to grasp that to beat Trumpworld it can’t be done by scoring points at a debate. The rhetoric has to be brief, concrete, visceral, bite-size, fierce, and not so caught up trying to stay within normal conventions of decorum. In fact why are some of the committee hearings still trying to act like something is actually happening there? I don’t get that. They have to be used more effectively as a stage, which she gets. And Pope Leo gets (with a different vibe). Between Pope Leo and Rep Crockett we have our standard bearers for how to defy what’s going on and create something else. [[editing to add: it is hard to cover all the nuance in a short note, but I do need to of course not glide over the unacceptable parts of P Leo's words on which marriages count and anti-abortion etc....I have in mind his ability to articulate what "woke" can/does mean. That is isn't academic-speak necessarily. ]]

Use this spreadsheet to call/email/write any of our representatives as often as possible. Not just your own state reps, reach out to those in other states. Be as loud as you can and share this. Use your voice and make some “good trouble.”

It is a waste of time to contact anyone but your own representative and senators. That's the advice of the former congressional staffers who started Indivisible.

Expand full comment
Megan Rothery's avatar

I understand where that recommendation is coming from, however strongly feel that since we are in (what I believe) a constitutional crisis, we have a right to reach out to a specific person on a topic that would fit their role on a specific committee even if they are not our representative. I think it’s up to each individual if they want to send thanks to those who are standing up for the average American, or stress the importance of upholding our constitution in whatever way that links to a committee a member is on. And even if not, hopefully my comment helps remind people to reach out to their own reps and speak up 🤞

Expand full comment
MisTBlu's avatar

I appreciate your enthusiasm and totally agree with your point about the threats to the Constitution but the fact is that messages from non-constituents do not reach the ears or eyes of the representative and many staffers have the right to not do either. The real value of your post is, as you say in your final sentence, to remind people to contact THEIR representative and senators.

I can't tell you how many comments I read declaring that Democrats need to reject their "far left" and stick to the center. They are outraged that a young person like David Hogg would dare to suggest Democrats make use of the primary process to bring in new blood and fresh ideas. There is a common narrative that it was those radical positions that cost them the election last year. That's the inertia and resistance that energetic, exciting, outspoken progressives like Congresswoman Crockett are up against. I hope her voice isn't lost.
