Arrest Kristi Noem’s thugs

California needs to defend itself from Trump’s attacks

Assaulting a United States Senator is a pretty serious charge. And it needs to be brought against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s thugs right fucking now.

On Thursday afternoon, Noem’s guards assaulted and briefly detained sitting United States Sen. Alex Padilla in Los Angeles. So not only have Noem and Donald Trump brought chaos and violence to L.A., they are also now bringing it to the state’s democratically-elected representatives.

If we don’t stop this now, we might not have a chance later.

Almost immediately, DHS and Noem began lying about what happened with New York Times reporters dutifully and shamefully repeating the bullshit spin even though we can all see what actually happened. As we have seen from Jan. 6 and this week in L.A., Trump and his goons will try to change the reality of what happened, and they will have lots of help from the press to do it.

That’s why it’s so important that either the Los Angeles District Attorney or the state’s attorney general start looking for ways to hold these assholes accountable. If Republicans want to be the law-and-order party, then let’s give them a taste of actual law and order.

We are already seeing a lot of outrage and anger from other senators and California Gov. Gavin Newsom. They’re right to be upset. But they need to do something about it.

Trump and Noem are bullies. They get off on attacking people they think are weaker than them. And like most bullies, the only thing they understand is strength and consequences. Putting some of their thugs in the Los Angeles jail would send the message that California is not going to sit back and take their abuse.

Otherwise, this is just the beginning. If Trump and Noem believe they can get away with assaulting a U.S. senator, then they certainly won’t stop. It’s truly terrifying to consider what could happen next.

That’s why it has to stop now. The ICE invasion of Los Angeles and the assault on Sen. Padilla are way too fucking far. It’s on our elected Democrats to make that clear.

And the best way to do that is to start arresting the real criminals.
